Wijnhuis · Marlborough, Nieuw-Zeeland
Van cricketveld naar wijngaard.
From cricket pitch to vineyard.
Andrew Bailey was a cricketer before he became a winemaker. In 2008 he founded Misty Cove in Marlborough, initially to supply his own wine import business in the Netherlands. Only in 2012 did he return to New Zealand to become a full time, gumboots-on winemaker himself.
The name comes from the misty coves of the Marlborough Sounds, where Bailey spent his childhood summers. From an outsider, Misty Cove grew into one of New Zealand's twenty largest wineries, and stayed independent along the way.
Misty Cove works with minimal intervention, letting the fruit decide when it is time to harvest, not the calendar.
Misty Cove staat vooral bekend om zijn Sauvignon Blanc, aangevuld met Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer en Gruner Veltliner. Fris, helder en typisch Nieuw-Zeelands.
